Brittany conjures up images of the sea, crepes and cider. However, like its neighbor Normandy (la Normandie), although it faces the sea, it is also strongl" [2]

Bourdain has also been updating his blog lately, which is always a treat. On Saturday he posted about his Brittany trip: . What you won't see on the show -- but should probably know about Brittany -- is that always, constantly ... there's food. Turbot and Dover sole beckon. Cheap but wonderful wines -- as if issuing from some bottomless artisanal well -- our glasses just seem to refill magically. Brittany

"Though archeologically Brittany is one of the richest regions in the world The alignments at Carnac rival Stonehenge its first appearance in recorded history is as the quasi-mythical Little Britain of Arthurian legend. In the days when to travel by sea was safer and easier than by land, it was intimately connected with Great Britain across the water. Settlements such as St-Malo, St-Pol and Quimper were founded by Welsh and Irish missionary saints whose names are not to be found in any official breviary. Brittany remained independent until the sixteenth century, its last ruler, Duchess Anne, only managing to protect the province s autonomy through marriage to two consecutive French monarchs. After her death, in 1532, Fran ois I took her daughter and lands," [8]

Gavrinis (Gavr'inis) Brittany - France

" The Isle of Goats just off the coast of Brittany in France is home to the wonderful Gavrinis megalithic cairn. The cairn is about 5500 years old, it is 60 metres in diameter and covers a passage and chamber which is lined with elaborately engraved stones. Brittany, France

"Brittany (Bretagne), the most westerly part of France, a peninsula 255km/155mi long and 100- 150km/60-95mi wide reaching out into the Atlantic, was once a mighty range of mountains up to 4,000 m/13,000ft high which in the course of some 60million years was worn down to a granite base no more than 400 m/1,300ft high. Brittany is the land between ar mor, the sea, and ar goat, the forest. Armor, the land on the sea, was the name given by the people of Gaul to this region with a tidal movement of up to 18 m/60 feet and a much indented coastline of 1,100km/685mi, a region of rocky promontories affording magnificent views of the ocean and cliff-fringed inlets with a scatter of islands, of little fishing towns and popular seaside resorts. Inland Brittany - Argoat, the land of the forest - is a region of lonely moorland and heath, with scattered settlements an" [39]
